Makes No Sense
Every once in a while, I will come across a passage that really gets my attention. Have you ever noticed that there are moments where it seems like a particular passage seems to scream at you? It happened for me last week. Let’s take a look at Luke 5:1-11.
As a 40 year old man who has been in ministry since Graduating from the University of Georgia in 1996, I have had the opportunity to see quite a few things along the way. I’ve had some great, confusing, challenging, and dry seasons. Following Jesus for me has been quite an adventure. At this point of my life, I have learned one enormous lesson in my experience with God. The times in my life when I do exactly what he tells me to do, how he tells me to do it, and when it he tells me to do it, it seems to be way more fruitful. If you are in ministry, you surely know that it is miserable to feel as though you are operating out of your own strength and looking for your own strategies. As I looked at this passage the other night, something struck me right between the eyes. When the downwind from heaven touches something that Jesus intentionally calls us to do, it brings with it a consequence of favor that is truly astounding. I’m not saying this because I read a book on it. I’ve seen it in my own life and I can’t be talked out of it. Obedience is rewarded in the kingdom.
